Flowers in Landscape
Date1950-1955
Label TextLike his contemporaries Matisse or Picasso, Chagall was adept at distilling the figurative form down to an essence that sometimes verged on the abstract. Truth to nature was often sublimated in favor of flights of fancy, and the interplay of figure, flowers, and other elements in this composition reveal an overarching interest in developing the richness of the picture, first and foremost.
