American, born 1942

Between 1963 and 1967, Lyon documented the subculture of a Chicago-are group of motorcycle riders. He compiled the images in the 1968 book "The Bikeriders." In the biker photographys, including the two shown here, Lyon did not strive for impartiality. Rather, he showed the motorcycle group-of which he had become a part-in a fovorable light, echoing the era's antiestablishment tendencies.
