The initials in the center of this plate are for Charles, Prince of Asturias, the future King Charles IV of Spain (ascended in 1789), and his wife, Maria Luisa of Parma. This plate is a Buen Retiro replacement for the Sèvres service first made in 1773–74 for the Prince of Asturias.
