Betty Bowen was a prominent advocate for the arts in the Northwest whose passion for helping artists has lived on after her. Following her death in 1977, a group of friends created the Betty Bowen Award to recognize excellence among Northwest artists and this annual prize has continued to this day in collaboration with the Seattle Art Museum.
