Sonia Delaunay
Russian, active in France 1885 - 1979
Label TextSonia Delaunay developed an exuberant type of abstract painting, breaking up forms rooted in nature into riots of fractal color. This work is a study for a mural that was to be a chapel façade in Portugal but was never painted. The artist was inspired by the color of the landscape, the native textiles, and the dress of its inhabitants as well as the clarity of its light.
