Powder horn with carved animals

17th century

Dogs—with teeth bared, hair bristling, and ears laid back—chase after their prey. The sequence of animals skillfully added to this horn may relate to chivalric hunting scenes in European woodcuts, which were furnished to Indian artists by their European patrons.
