Official's ceremonial robe
ca. 1900
This Mongolian-style robe was tailored from Russian silk, which was probably in circulation because of increased trade and diplomacy between Russia and China during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). It was worn by a Tibetan lay official on the first day of the New Year and during other important government occasions in winter.
