Label TextTowards the end of his life, Renger-Patzsch concentrated on the theme of nature in his photographs. After bombing destroyed his archives in Berlin in 1944, he eventually moved to the countryside. There, he photographed the natural surroundings, sometimes traveling for miles to find the perfect tree. As is evident in literature, music, and art, forests hold an enormous symbolic appeal to the German imagination. Renger-Patzsch's Firs has ties to the artist's early work. One of his first professional projects was a group of photographs for a book series called The World of Plants.
