Fernand Léger

French, 1881-1955

Fernand Léger was enamored with the rigor of mechanical objects, utilizing them in his compositions as vehicles for the orchestration of volume, line, rhythm and color. Machine forms were also consummately modern, embraced as well by architects and designers from this period as signifiers of a new direction and a break from the past.
