Ato Sengai

Japanese, 1929 - 1996

A renowned print artist, Ato Sengai is also a Buddhist priest. Not surprisingly, his work often references beliefs and visual arts associated with Buddhism. Here, a two-wheeled mandala, a representation of the Buddhist universe used for meditation, is depicted in simplified forms and vivid colors. The abstract, geometric qualities of Ato’s art makes its appealing to viewers of all faiths.
