Funasaka Yoshisuke

Japanese, born 1931

Innovative artist Funasaka Yoshisuke has consistently incorporated lemons into his work since 1957. For Funasaka, the lemon represents freshness. Here, the ever-present lemon appears as the familiar yellow oval, in a blue-outlined form, and in a range of motion. Utilizing two printing techniques, woodblock and silkscreen, the artist was able to achieve rich color and a tactile quality in this print.
