Two Dashing Horses
Date1971
Label TextAt a young age, Nakayama Tadashi became aware of his artistic abilities and his interest in depicting nature and zoology. Trained as a painter, Nakayama is most well known for his detailed woodblock prints. His prints are appreciated for the use of delicate lines, formalized patterns, a wealth of colors, and gold- or silver-leaf in the background. These fine qualities are beautifully illustrated in Nakayama’s two prints here: Two Dashing Horses, the artist’s favorite subject, and Butterfly.
