Twin statuette (Ere Ibeji)
Label TextParents have ibeji carved when twin children die; they then enact ritualized care for them by rubbing the heads with blue indigo dye, adding beads and keeping the ibeji on the family shrine. The figures are depicted in the fullness of adult physique, hands on hips, poised and balanced. It is believed that twins can bring good fortune to families who treat them with proper respect.
