Andreas Gursky

German, born 1955

German artist Andreas Gursky calls attention to the connection between mark-making and unique artistic identity in the modern period generally, and in the work of Abstract Expressionist painters, particularly. Gursky magnifies abstract qualities discovered in a close-up patch of the surface of a landscape painting by the nineteenth century British artist, John Constable.
