Tripod incense burner

Date14th-15th century
Label TextMany Longquan works imitate early bronze shapes, such as this incense burner, with its stepped shoulder, rounded sides, and flat base, firmly supported by three stout legs. Song taste is sometimes seen as an archaic revival, however Song potters endowed shapes from the past with contemporary glazes to create a fresh approach.
