Label TextUnder the acronym ROCI (Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange), Rauschenberg sought to foster cultural exchange amongst artists, poets, and critics -- a private initiative to build bridges toward peaceful understanding through research and exhibitions. This series was begun in 1988, a year before the fall of the Berlin Wall, and includes photographs of New York and Moscow taken by the artist. In 1989, the series was exhibited in Moscow, the first solo show by an American artist in the Soviet Union.
