Maker Malerie Marder American, born 1971
Label TextMalerie Marder's photographs typically represent the artist, her family and friends, in contrived settings that are often overtly suggestive. Here the artist poses on the beach with her body's shape positioned to imitate the forms of the rocks behind her. Instead of modeling for the stereotyped male artist, this awkwardly staged contemporary "odalisque" has been created through the act of the artist posing and photographing herself.
