Secretary II
1972
Influenced by the slick aesthetics of pop art, the twin figures of this work emerge from the surface of the canvas in candy-colored plastic, identically attending to their secretarial duties. They are flanked by dollar bills and a voyeuristic image of a woman undressing, while a shadowy male figure at a desk looms behind them—a haunting suggestion of the role of sexual politics and power in the workplace.
