Label TextThe surface of this large vase is covered with an ornate, scrolling motif of chrysanthemum flowers and leaf stems, symbols of prosperity and the autumn season. Whereas the flower in Japan is associated with the Imperial family--and by extension, the privileges of governing--in China it was associated with retirement and leisure.
