Asmat shield

early 20th century

Swirling spirals push across this shield, referencing curved nose ornaments made of shell that are a standard Asmat accessory. It, in turn, imitates the tusks of fierce wild boar whose aggressive attacks from the depths of a forest are common occurrence.
