Inspired by a visit to Yunlong Buddhist Hall
1978
Inspired by a visit to Yunlong Buddhist Hall, this work in cursive demonstrates Chang Ch'ung-ho's versatility in various scripts. The unembellished ending strokes of each character recall Wen Zhengming's masterpiece, Poem to the Painting "Sunset on the Jin and Jiao Mountains'"(dated 1521), at SAAM. As Wen's work was in the Chang family collection for decades, it is conceivable that she was inspired by Wen. Her cursive script also shows more fluid connections of the characters than the work by her teacher Shen Yinmo. As such, this work demonstrates a difference between two major and closely-related calligraphers.
