Poppy Blossom bowl

17th - 18th century

A coiling stem forms the foot of this bowl, one of the finest Mughal jade carvings to enter the Qianlong emperor’s collection. He wrote that it was “thin as paper,” remarking that the jade-carving skills of Chinese artisans could not compare. These comments are carved into the side of the bowl.
