Green Bamboo (Ryokuchiku zu)
ca. 1910's
In this work, Tsuji Kako (1870 - 1931) expresses a fresh atmosphere through the simple motif of bright green bamboo trunks and leaves. A composition of bamboo groves at both sides of the screens, with lower parts of the trunks featured in the center, gives the illusion of spatial depth that draws the viewer deeper into the painting.
