Date2006
Maker Tomma Abts German, (works in London), born 1967
Label TextThe recipient of the 2006 Turner Prize for Contemporary Art, Abts is a committed abstractionist-both in paintings and works on paper-who challenges herself to make compelling compositions without any preconceptions before putting paint to canvas or pencil to paper. She always confines herself to a relatively modest scale, giving emphasis to the personal aspect of her artmaking and embodiment of the handmade.
