Rainstorm beneath the Summit (Sanka haku-u), from the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku sanjurokkei)
ca. 1830-32
In this print, which is sometimes referred to as “Black Fuji,” Mount Fuji is in a view from the West, or the back view, on a stormy summer afternoon. The imposing mountain dwarfs even the lightning, which is seen on the lower slope.
