The Magnification
2007
Brodahl has been painting quietly and steadfastly for many years, but only recently is being exhibited more widely. Her careful renderings of harshly contrasting elements are often difficult for the eye to process, and the mixing of sacred and profane imagery makes paintings such as this even more challenging for viewers. The Belgian branch of Surrealism-think Rene Magritte-is alive and well in her hands.
