Double spouted vessel
late 1950s
One of America's leading ceramicists, Toshiko Takaezu was part of an international wave of artists that investigated the sculptural side of ceramic art, moving beyond functional pots and bowls to explore forms, surfaces, and colors. This spherical vessel carries traces of Japan's rich ceramic past, but the exaggerated double spouts indicate the artist's interest in experimental techniques.
