Maker Gabriel Kuri Mexican, born 1970
Label TextKuri is a master of slippery meanings and the quizzical use of common materials. Here, the format of painting is conjured by the silvery emergency blankets and sticks, but they also read as strange protest banners whose message is comprised of the reflections gathered from their surroundings. But what to make of the functional potential of the blankets? To whom and for what might they provide comfort and protection?
