Warrior
1991
Native sports teams were first assembled in boarding schools but adopted thereafter by tribes and First Nations living on reservations. Today, youth are involved in sports such as basketball, hockey and lacrosse, but also the more traditional leisure activities of canoe racing and bone game (slehal). Elliott, winner of the prized Order of Canada, here turns his talents to promoting the local (Saanich, B.C.) First Nations lacrosse team, the Peninsula Warriors.
