Stan Greene

First Nations, Semiahmoo, born 1953

Stan Greene has been credited with initiating the revival of Coast Salish style, although his early work in more northern styles reflects his training at the Kitanmaax School at K'san in northern British Columbia. Stan's approach to art is individualistic and deeply spiritual. When carving totem poles-a form not traditional to Salish people-he imparts his own understanding of Salish forms gleaned from studying museum collections.
