Recto/Verso
Date1988
Label TextHeinecken mined magazine imagery for his experimental practice. He was particularly drawn to the depictions of femininity and masculinity in the popular press. For the portfolio Recto/Verso, Heinecken contact printed double-sided magazine pages on silver-dye bleach photograms. Each page from this portfolio shows a composite image, combining the front and back. The artist eliminated any extraneous text, resulting in strange yet evocative hybrid images.
