Recto/Verso
1988
Heinecken mined magazine imagery for his experimental practice. He was particularly drawn to the depictions of femininity and masculinity in the popular press. For the portfolio Recto/Verso, Heinecken contact printed double-sided magazine pages on silver-dye bleach photograms. Each page from this portfolio shows a composite image, combining the front and back. The artist eliminated any extraneous text, resulting in strange yet evocative hybrid images.
Handmade, archival case containing twelve Cibachome photograpms presented in museum board mats with corresponding text printed on vellum
