Provenance: The artist; sold on installment arrangement to George Palmer Putnam (1887-1950) and his third wife, Jean-Marie Cosigny Putnam (b. 1911), North Hollywood, California, July, 1939, for $1,000; consigned to [Stendahl Galleries, Los Angeles, California], after June 1942-Mar. 23, 1944; purchased back from Putnam, via Mrs. Putnam’s divorce lawyer, Gurney Newlin, by the artist, Ausable Forks, New York, for Putnam’s cash investment in the picture, $250, Mar. 1944; {possibly sold to Charles Simon (1912-1995), New York, Nov. 1948, for $2,000}; {possibly returned by Charles Simon to the artist, Ausable Forks, New York, Dec. 1948}; {U.S. government auction, reportedly in the Far East?}; sold to Ernest [Theodore] Yezdan (1921-2008), San Francisco, California, by July 25, 1960-2008; his estate; sold to Thomas Barwick (1929-2022), Seattle, Washington, 2009; to Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, Washington, 2022
