Samurai Hat

18th century

Lacquer hats worn by members of the samurai warrior class offer protection from sun and rain rather than arrows and weapons. This one has indicators of identity and social standing, including the clan crest and cloud-like dragons on the sides, depicted in expensive mother-of-pearl inlay.
