Little Red Book

Andy Warhol

American, 1928 - 1987

Warhol made more than one hundred "Little Red Books," which referenced Chairman Mao's famous book by the same name, in which Mao recorded his political thoughts and directives. In his red books Warhol replaces the single image of Chairman Mao with many different characters he met or worked with, usually photographed during a particular event or excursion.
