Label TextNo doubt the most recognizable landmark in Japan, Mount Fuji was revered as a sacred site even before Shinto shrines or Buddhist temples were built on the mountain. It is a prime destination for Shinto (the indigenous religion of Japan) and Buddhist pilgrimage. Painted from a view of the pine forest in Miho, another famous site in Japan, the lofty mountain in this screen appears even more imposing, with its snow-capped peak towering over the forest.
