Jan Groover

American, 1943 - 2012

Groover's photographs are a strong example of art historian Meyer Shapiro's view of the still-life genre: "Often associated with a style that explores patiently and minutely the appearance of nearby things-their textures, lights, reflections, and shadows-the still-life objects bring to awareness the complexity of the phenomenal and the subtle interplay of perception and artifice in representation…We are led to consider the whole as an arrangement by the artists, a pure invention.
