I Am Your Man

2007

Alyssa Pheobus Mumtaz

American, born 1982

With this work, Alyssa Pheobus Mumtaz turns the lyrics of Leonard Cohen’s 1988 song “I Am Your Man” into a stark black-and-white composition that covers the upper portion of the heavy paper. The lower portion remains evocatively blank, suggesting an incomplete or continuing story.
