Black pottery vase in shape of hu

ca. 3rd century B.C.

Jars (hu) from the Warring States period--with ceramic objects being the economical versions of bronze--often contain narrative features of hunting and war scenes. This vase was probably made in the ancient Chu kingdom, which was located in present day Hubei province.
