Mola
Date1950s-60s
Label TextMolas are colorful multi-layered panels that adorn women’s blouses of the Guna people of coastal Panama. The earliest designs were primarily adapted from geometric body painting but evolved into a florescence of motifs including mythological beings, sea creatures, and everyday scenes. This mola seems to depict community fishing boats and their English names.
