Tsonokwa Woman

Tsonokwa, or dzunuḱwa, is the mythic wild woman of the woods, who is both a caution to children not to wander from the village and a source of wealth for chiefs, hunters, and others who encounter her. Her image, often shown with deep-set eyes, open mouth, and pendulous breasts, is seen on house posts (see nearby gallery), daggers, masks, and feast dishes. Here, she is seen with human features.
