Susan A. Point

First Nations, Musqueam, born 1952

Susan Point, a pioneering female artist in the mediums of wood carving, glass production, and printmaking, has remained constant in her use of Coast Salish design. However, she continually challenges her patrons, both public and private, with diverse themes and exciting compositions. Point adopted the circular format for her prints early in her career, a form derived from the traditional spindle whorl. She captures the spinning motion of the weaving tool by executing repeated patterns that flow around the design field.
