Salmon and Spear
April 1996
Salazar draws his inspiration from the striking graphic features of historic carved Coast Salish spindle whorls, from which he and other Salish artists reconstructed Salish styles. Shown in profile, the salmon here are articulated with patterns of U-shapes that make up their anatomies. The spear form in the center is constructed with the same shapes, creating a unified design.
