Desecration #2

Desecration #2

2017

John Feodorov

Diné, born 1960

“The series responds to ongoing environmental threats to traditional Diné lands and communities (including toxic pollution caused from uranium mining, coal burning, and fracking), as well as the exploitation and pollution of indigenous land around the world.” — John Feodorov

Desecration #2 is from the artist’s Desecration series, in which the artist commissions Diné wool rugs and draws on them with acrylic paint, graphite, and conté crayon. The sacred wool rug represents sovereign Diné lands, and the artist’s alteration, the continued environmental threats from governmental and private interests.
