In the early twentieth century, an eclectic blend of Catholicism, spiritism and Yoruba beliefs known as Umbanda emerged. This red figure is dedicated to Caboclo the spirit of native Brazilian Indians, embodying their knowledge of indigenous herbs and ingredients for herbal remedies.
