Bracelet, American eagle design

Bracelet, American eagle design

ca. 1900

Prized as old heirlooms or, today, as wearable art, silver bracelets replaced pre-contact ornaments made from copper, horn and antler when silver coins came with the Spanish expeditions in the late 18th century. Silver ornaments were initially engraved with Native motifs or later with the American Eagle, scroll and foliate forms.
