Vote McGovern
Date1972
Maker
Andy Warhol
American, 1928 - 1987
Label TextWhen Warhol was asked to donate an image for George McGovern's Democratic presidential campaign in 1972, he recognized that an appalling image of Republican candidate Richard Nixon could carry a far more effective political message than a representation of the bland McGovern. Adding reptilian colors to a stock media image of the incumbent president, Warhol depicts Nixon as a peril that can be eradicated if the viewer will "vote McGovern."
