Vote McGovern

1972

Andy Warhol

American, 1928 - 1987

When Warhol was asked to donate an image for George McGovern's Democratic presidential campaign in 1972, he recognized that an appalling image of Republican candidate Richard Nixon could carry a far more effective political message than a representation of the bland McGovern. Adding reptilian colors to a stock media image of the incumbent president, Warhol depicts Nixon as a peril that can be eradicated if the viewer will "vote McGovern."
