Heddle pulley

Label TextPompidou's Christmas pulley This sculpture from the Guro of Cote d'Ivoire was given to the museum by a donor who explained its origin with the following note: "I first noticed African sculptures when I had Tea with George Braque in 1960. He had a treasured small sculpture on a table in front of his Fauve paintings. I couldn't wait to find a similar piece and one day, a year or so later, I found an Ibeji figure for sale at Underwoods in London. This piece was given to me one Christmas by Mrs. George Pompidou. It had belonged to her husband and I had always admired it."
