Zhang Shuqi

Chinese, 1900 - 1974

This painting was acquired after Zhang exhibited his works at the Seattle Art Museum in the early 1940s, when he served as a representative of the Chinese government. Although he was much heralded as a Chinese painter, he had combined tradition with Western painting techniques, as seen in the foreshortening of the peacock.

As a cultural and educational institution, we honor our ongoing connection to these communities past, present, and future. We also acknowledge the urban Native peoples from many Nations who call Seattle their home.
